Fish Species
this part of my page is for the fish species around our area. I will tell you what they are and show you how to target and find these fish. i will list them from A-Z
this species is known as the bluegill. it is in the pan fish family witch includes sunfish,crappie,and rock bass. they can live to the age of ten and can grow to twelve inches. they are sight predators that feed on blood worms, fly's, aquatic insects, and in rare cases minnows. the main way i tend to catch them is on a bobber and a hook rig witch is widely known in the fishing world. the main bait to put on the rig is worms and in rare cases minnows.
this is the bowfin. it is actually the last kind of fish in its family. they can be fifty years old and can grow up to thirty inches. they are predators that use there eyes and smell to find food. they eat dead animals, minnows,and sometimes even baby animals such as ducks or beavers. the best technique to catch is to bow fish with a arrow. they live in shallow spots so using lures is not to effective.
this is known as a brook trout. they are a part of the char family witch includes the lake trout, arctic char, and the dolly varden. how long they can live is unknown but can grow up to thirty inches. these fish are mainly sight predators and use there backwards facing teeth to there advantage to grab whatever they are trying to eat. they eat fish, aquatic insects and fly's generally but they eat whatever is in supply at times of the year. there are many techniques to fish them but my favorite is to fly fish with fly's mimicking the bait that is hatching in the creek,river,or lake.
this is a brown trout. it is a part of the salmon family which includes the chinook salmon, steelhead, and the chum salmon. they can live to fifteen years old and can grow up to forty inches. they eat minnows and eggs. the best way to get them is in the spring when they spawn and use spawn sacks.
this fish is known as a burbot. it is part of the barbel family which includes catfish and carp. they live too twenty years and can grow up to forty inches. they use their barbels to find food. they mainly eat dead minnows. to catch i would recommend using dead smelt on a hook and sinker rig that well make a oily scent for the fish to find.
this is known as a carp. they live in the barbel family which includes burbot and catfish. they can live up to fifty years and can grow up to thirty inches. they use their barbels to find food on the bottom and on top of the water. they are omnivores and eat berries,weeds,crayfish,and minnows. the best technique to get these fish is to use corn. it resembles the berries and has a cent trail that the fish can find with its barbels.
this is a catfish. they live in the barbel family which includes carp and burbot . there are many different types of catfish but the only one that lives around us is the channel catfish. they mainly eat dead animals until they are bigger and start to turn into predators.the best way is to use chicken livers and using the hook and sinker rig. for whatever reason they love chicken livers.
this is a chinook salmon. they are in the salmon family which includes the chum salmon,brown trout,coho salmon, and the steelhead.they can live for four years and can grow up to forty inches. they eat shad, alewife,and smelt.the best way to get them is in the fall when they spawn and use spawn eggs and be ready for when they eat.
these are known as crappie. they are part of the panfish family which includes bluegill,sunfish, and rock bass. they can live to ten years old and can get to eighteen inches. they are sight predators and mainly eat minnows. the best way to get them is in the spring using minnows on hook and bobber rigs and trying to find structure in the water like weeds or trees.
this is a lake sturgeon. it lives in the sturgeon family with the green sturgeon, beluga sturgeon, and the long nose sturgeon.they can live for over one hundred years and can grow up to seven feet. they like to eat dead animals, aquatic insects, and crayfish. the best way to fish this sturgeon is to use the hook and sinker rig with smelt and worms on the hook.
this is a lake trout.it is aprt of the char famly witch includes the brook trout, artic char, and the dolly varden. they can live for fifty years and can grow up to fifty inches. they mainly eat minnows and dead fish. the best way to fish them is to use a sinker hook rig and to use dead fish or live shiners as bait.
this is a large mouth bass. they are in the bass family alongside the smallmouth bass. they can live to be ten and grow to twenty five inches. they eat crayfish, minnows, and aquatic bugs. a great way to catch them is to use soft plastics and live bait like shiners or even bluegills.
this is the muskie. it is part of the esox family which includes the pike and pickerel. they can live for thirty years and can grow to sixty inches. they eat large fish and are known to be tricky to catch. the best way is in the fall with live suckers and big baits like bucktails and top raiders.

this is a perch. there are a part of the percidae family which includes walleye,sauger,and zander.they can live to ten and can be fifteen inches big. they eat minnows and aquatic insects. the best way to get them is minnows.
this is the rock bass. they are part of the panfish family that includes bluegill and sunfish. they can live to five and can grow to twelve inches. they eat aquatic insects and minnows. the best way is the bobber hook rig with a worm on it for bait.
this is a sauger. they are part of the percidae family which includes perch, walleye, and zander. they can live to be twelve and be up to twenty five inches long. they mainly eat minnows, the best way to get them is to use a jig and minnow.
this is a small mouth bass. they are apart of the bass family along with its cousin the largemouth bass. they can live to ten and grow up to be twenty five inches. they eat crayfish and minnows. the best way to get them is to[p water fishing trying to mimic a dying fish.
this is a steelhead. they are apart of the salmon family which includes the chinook salmon,brown trout, and chum salmon. they can live to be fifteen and grow to be forty inches. the steelhead is a rainbow born in the rivers and lives its life out in the lake but returns to spawn. they eat minnows and eggs. the best time to get them is in the spring when they spawn and to use spawn sacks.

this is a white bass. he is in the family called stripes. in the family is the striped bass and white perch. they can live for five years and can be twelve inches. they eat minnows. the best way to get them is in the spring with minnows.
